Financial Controller
Liverpool (onsite)
£70,000 - £85,000 + Bonus

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a hands-on Financial Controller to join a dynamic, entrepreneurial group with interests spanning various sectors. This position is ideally suited to a candidate who thrives in an owner-managed environment, enjoys working at pace, and can balance both strategic oversight and hands-on delivery.

The organisation is a diverse, fast-moving business with a significant property portfolio and hospitality operations. The leadership team is small and close-knit, with direct involvement from the business owners.

The Role

This is not purely a back-office role. The Financial Controller will manage two finance administrators while taking direct responsibility for core reporting, compliance, and operational finance activities. They will work closely with the owners, operational managers, and external partners, ensuring accurate, timely, and insightful financial information is delivered.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Producing management accounts, covenant compliance packs, VAT returns, statutory accounts, and tax computations.

  • Preparing arrears reports, reconciling bank accounts, posting journals, and managing intercompany recharges.

  • Managing and reviewing the finance administrators' workflow, including postings, payment runs, and reconciliations.

  • Partnering with managers, lenders, and external stakeholders to provide financial insight.

  • Overseeing VAT, corporation tax, and statutory filings, liaising with external accountants as required.

  • Monitoring cash flows, ensuring funding for payments, and maintaining robust treasury controls.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have proven experience in owner-managed businesses with exposure to rapid decision-making and adaptability.

  • Be capable of managing multiple entities across different sectors.

  • Hold a recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, or equivalent) with strong technical skills in UK GAAP, VAT, and corporation tax.

  • Possess strong Excel and accounting software skills (experience with VT is advantageous but not essential).
