Finance Manager

St Helens

Salary up to £40,000

We're looking for an experienced finance professional to oversee the day-to-day running of the finance function while leading a small team. This is a hands-on management role, combining people leadership with operational finance responsibilities. You'll ensure core financial processes run efficiently, maintain strong financial controls, and support the business with accurate reporting and continuous process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, support and develop the finance team, ensuring workloads are managed effectively and high standards are maintained.

  • Take ownership of the purchase ledger function, overseeing supplier invoices, approvals, payment schedules and resolving supplier queries.

  • Manage the credit control process to maximise cash collection, reduce outstanding debt and maintain healthy cash flow.

  • Oversee daily finance operations, including bank reconciliations, account maintenance and financial controls.

  • Assist with month-end close activities, ensuring reporting deadlines are met accurately and on time.

  • Prepare and review financial reports to provide meaningful insight and support business decision-making.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline finance processes, improve efficiency and strengthen internal controls.

  • Build strong working relationships with colleagues across the wider business to ensure finance supports operational and commercial objectives.

About you

You'll have previous experience managing or supervising a finance team and a strong background in transactional finance, particularly purchase ledger and credit control. You'll be highly organised, proactive and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to balance operational responsibilities while driving improvements.

  • Previous experience leading or supervising a finance team.

  • Strong knowledge of purchase ledger, credit control and day-to-day finance operations.

  • A collaborative approach with strong communication skills.

  • Experience supporting month-end processes and management reporting.

  • Previous involvement in improving finance processes and systems.
