Assistant Accountant

£35,000 - £40,000 | North Liverpool | Hybrid

A growing, multi-entity SME in the North West is looking to appoint a hands-on Assistant Accountant to join its expanding finance team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys ownership and wants to play a key role in keeping a finance function running smoothly within a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

The Role

You'll take responsibility for day-to-day finance operations across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy, control, and a smooth month-end process. This is a varied position offering strong exposure and the chance to contribute to process improvements.

Key responsibilities include:

• Ownership of purchase and sales ledger processes
• Bank postings and reconciliations
• Preparing payment runs
• Maintaining accurate and well-organised ledgers
• Posting journals (accruals, prepayments, payroll)
• Supporting month-end close
• Managing intercompany balances and reconciliations
• Bookkeeping for smaller group entities
• Supporting system and process improvements

About You

• Experience in an Accounts Assistant / Finance Assistant / Bookkeeping role
• Comfortable working in an SME or multi-entity environment
• Strong Excel skills and good systems knowledge
• Experience with cloud accounting software (e.g. Xero or Sage) is beneficial
• Highly organised, proactive, and detail-focused
• Comfortable managing routine, high-volume workloads with accuracy
